Message of DFA Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. on the Day of the Seafarer.
Today, we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Day of the Seafarer, which was established by a resolution adopted by the Conference of Parties on the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) for Seafarers in Manila in 2010.
This year, the Day of the Seafarer campaign by the International Maritime Organization (IOM) calls on Member States to recognize seafarers as key workers during these challenging times.
With Filipino seafarers comprising a third of the global seafaring industry, the DFA, along with its Foreign Service Posts, joins the rest of the world in honoring
all Filipino seafarers for their dedication and hard work in ensuring that basic goods and services are efficiently delivered around the world, especially during this pandemic.
Likewise, the DFA strives to continue its efforts in assisting the safe return of our seafarers, wherever and whenever possible.
Mabuhay ang marinong Pilipino!
